Executive Team

  • Nelson Mills

    CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

    A lifelong sailor who led hull development at Pure Watercraft, an electric boating startup that has raised $170M+ in funding. He later consulted on R&D for hydrofoiling electric boats. Just prior to Vatn, he was an investor at Link Ventures and previously held investor roles with Lux Capital and Global Founders Capital. Nelson holds a BA and MBA from Columbia University.

  • Geoff Manchester

    CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER

    Experienced mechanical engineer and mariner who was the director of engineering at Koop for a decade. While there, he led a team of engineers and developed some of the most advanced hydrofoiling electric boats in the world and a variety of other projects, including submersibles. Geoff has a BS in ME from Montana State University.

  • Freddie Mills

    CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

    Freddie has been running boats and building complex parts his whole life, starting as a manufacturing technician at Placid Boatworks and a tug boat captain on Lake Placid. As the owner of Mills Composites for the past five years, he has led a team of engineers and technicians to build large and intricate composite parts using the latest manufacturing techniques. Freddie is a USCG licensed 100 ton captain.

  • Dan Hendrix

    CHIEF REVENUE OFFICER

    Seasoned tech development program manager with experience in government projects focused on digital vision and virtual reality solutions. A former commander of a Special Forces Dive unit, Dan concurrently serves as Deputy Commander of a brigade headquarters in the National Guard. He holds a BS from the US Air Force Academy and a Masters in Military Doctrine and Strategic Management.

  • Scott Howell

    Lt. Gen. Scott Howell is a sought-after board advisor to B2B and B2G companies across aerospace and emerging technologies such as AI, sensors and software. An experienced executive government leader, Scott can build bridges to DoD decisionmakers, optimize military contracting outreach, mentor leaders, and develop and execute winning growth strategies.

  • Paul Kennedy

    Paul has 30 years experience in Defense and Govt related Strategic Planning, Communications and Issue-Advocacy. Extensive expertise in Overseas Contingency Operations within conflict zones and natural disasters. Forward-postured engagement of key public to include: Legislative Affairs; Print/Broadcast/Social media platforms; Private and Public policy and education institutes; Diversity outreach and Talent Management; Brand Management; Crisis Communications.

  • Constantine Saab

    Constantine is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program, earned a Master of Science from Virginia Tech in Systems Engineering (Management Systems), and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Virginia in Electrical Engineering. He serves on several external boards, where he contributes his background in strategy, innovation, and technology, with a particular focus on cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

  • Jim Smith

    Former Acquisition Executive for the United States Special Operations Command where he managed over $6 billion annually in support of global special operations. Over 30 years of experience in government acquisition and committed to a robust industrial base and vibrant technology sector in support of our national defense.
